We decided to distract ourselves from bug-fixing and optimizations for a bit and work on new stuff for a change. Therefore, after releasing random caves, we began working on the item system. Today's update is the first glimpse at it - Artifacts!
What are Artifacts?
Artifacts are similar to regular equipment items wearable by your hero, except they have extra stats (up to five). The stats will allow you to make your hero even stronger if you can gather up powerful gear.
Artifact Traits
Artifacts add additional prefixes and/or suffixes to the regular item name depending on their power and traits. There are almost 100 different traits that could spawn on an artifact item, varying from a simple stat increase such as strength, to something more exotic - like a chance to pick up two items instead of one during your adventures. Not all of them are working though, so expect bugs.
Artifact Categories
There are five artifact categories divided by their power: - Enhanced (power 1-17, blue)
- Enchanted (power 18-32, light blue)
- Rare (power 33-41, orange)
- Legendary (power 42-47, yellow)
- Godly (power 48-50, white)
Artifacts have been in the game for a while and some of you might have already seen some weird items with extra stats, but now they are official and there are a lot of possible modifiers.
Equipment Attrition
Along with artifacts, in this update we have added equipment attrition. The gear was not meant to be permanent, but instead it was meant to wear down after use. Now it does just that - slowly wears out. Later, when we implement repair, you will be able to fix worn-out items with proper hero perks. But for now it is not possible.
Item Spawning Revised
Before this update the chests often contained some pretty worthless items - you could easily get chicken legs inside a big golden chest - which was pretty discouraging. Now the chests spawn more items and should be more fair in terms of their content (including artifacts). The rewards from monsters have been revised as well - monters not always spawn rewards now. Let us know in the comments below what kind of artifacts have you managed to find and where you got them. Also post how many chests you have opened since this update and how many artifacts you have obtained so we can understand how frequent and how well artifact spawning is working.

Hero level 24. 1 little chest: speaker horn, clockwork, wooden shield (lol) 2 med + 6 big dendrogs: wood, iron, purified copper or 8 big muscards: 40 (?) stone, heater shield 2 little worms: food, iron, ankh pendant 4 little worms: 2 X 15000 research points, vales' helmet, 10 speaker horns 6 med worms: wood, iron, 15000 research points 4 little, 2 med, 1 big worms: speaker horn, nasal casque, wood, hand cannon Unfortunately, I couldn't yet pick up the wood and the iron, because my storage was full. And I always noticed, that stronger units or units with upgraded armor/weapon die sooner as weaker ones, is that normal? For ex. I loose in a battle swordsmen level 3, but swordsmen without upgrade or even simply archers or witch doctors remain.

Is the repair function coming any time soon...? After one day (and I've only been playing in the afternoon, really) all my equip is down by 10%. 9 more days and everything will be gone. Will we get an update within this time? Otherwise I might start running around naked... ;)

It was explained to me that the better equipped soldiers are more often on the front lines, therefore they get killed first.

Repair function is in the works, but can't comment on "soon". More like "when it's done" as always. To Everyone: Comment on how fast your equipment wears out too.

So after a more carefull check most of the equip was around 90% after 1 day, the belt was 100% but the shoes and skirt were 80% :/ That means they will wear out in 4 more days. So I have a general question - is the attrition feature a part of some bigger equip scheme that we are yet to see? Because my first idea when I saw how fast it gets destroyed was - I have to fight less monsters and move the hero less. But on second thought - what would I be doing then? I would be left with building only... And I won't get new equip that way. As I see it he only truly effective solution for not using up the equip so fast is to stop playing. I guess that's not what you want players to think... The less effective option is to change equip to worse stuff but if you're high level and facing dragons (or for leaderism players - other high level players) that's simply not an option - the equip bonuses are really crucial to even start a fight. Obviously, everybody wants to wear whatever best they have (especially, if we will be able to improve it to artifacts). Of course once the repair feature comes this would improve a lot. But
still, if there is any limit on the repairs (as I understand this would
require ore, which I now have plenty of but I think I would quickly run
out of it) then sooner or later you come to the same problem. Especially, if reparis would need a special building that in turn would need some tech, etc. The
best option would remain to limit your playing. On the other hand, if there are no limits on repairs - what's the point of having attrition at all? I have to say I'm confused about all of this... The only pro I can see is that it enriches the game play a tiny bit. But if at some point of time each player reaches a conclusion that they have to play less - I don't think it's worth it.

Sorry, haven't read the request about the chests and monsters in time, so didn't write them down, but chests gave 3-4 items, muscards didn't drop anything, other monsters dropped at lest 3 items for each group - badges, science points, resources, several Fisherman's Tale, Battle cry, 1 Figurine of enlightenment, Devil in Disguise etc. Didn't find any artifacts - are they gained by attack on other players only?

Thank you, I understand now. I made the same thoughts, but I wasn't sure.

The attrition is a part of a more rich item system which involves crafting, enchanting, repairing, deconstructing items into ores and so on. If it upsets yo so much that you can see only solution is to stop
playing then I don't know what to say to you. I can only hope majority
of players will come to the different conclusion.

The artifacts can be obtained in chests and from monsters, it's just they are significantly more rare than regular stuff.

As heroes equipment is now starting to wear out it is noticeable from my notes that not much equipment is being dropped. It may be good to alter the probability away from resources towards equipment. I also got drops from all my monsters in the 3 towns. Hope this is helpful :)
