The closed alpha test has begun!

The closed alpha test has begun!

I has begun.

We've came a long road up to this moment of truth and now we are proud to announce that first people were invited to take part into closed alpha test of Totem Tribe II: Jotun.

The game is pretty rough and has LOADS of bugs, but letting real people in will help us to locate and find those bugs. The game is not by any means represent the final product at this moment, so if you got the invite and not ready for bumpy ride and want smooth gaming experience - PLEASE WAIT at least until beta.

To those who really wanted by haven't got the invite yet - don't worry, we will invite you as soon as technical possibility will allow. We can only let people carefully one by one to gauge the load on the server. Letting too many people too soon will complicate the testing process.

The current alpha version of the game have a lot of limitations. Some of the most notable ones are:

  • Story mode is limited only to Tutorial which is about 2 hours long (depends on how you play it)
  • We have only first two ages available - Dark Age and Stone Age.
  • Possible game resolutions is limited only to a low ones for now.
  • You can only start in Nothern or Southern Graasslands - other climate zones are not ready yet.
  • A lot of features are not implemented or roughly implemented - they will be improved and implemented over time.
  • World map is pretty small - since the alpha-test stage will not involve too many people.

If you were one of the invited people, please start up with this tester suvey where you will get instructions on how to proceed.

If you weren't invited, we are really sorry, but you will have to wait. Thank you for understanding.

Oh what a bummer for me!! I hope I can stop the download and start tomorrow without loosing whatever it gets tonight.

Yes, it only downloads the missing stuff, so you can download the rest later.

Sandy, I saw you report about being cramped in space. Unfortunately in the uploaded version of the game, default resolution was the lowest (800x600) and the game indeed does look very bad at that resoolution. Please change your resolution to something higher in game options to see if it is any better. You have to restart the game to have resolution change take effect.

You can't change the resolution under the options it stays the 800 x 600 even though it says some changes take effect when you restart.  the arrows do not work.

Domz, ya gotta click ALL the free games to download. Then it will pull another screen giving you the option for TT2 to download.

Can you disable the free downloads before getting to the Alpha download file? I personally just find it confusing, and also I don't want to choose any freebies right now...

Not sure. Try this link: http://www.totemtribe.com/good/download/totem_tribe_2/ if it won't work, then I guess you will have to pick the freebies before you proceed.

Sorry, got impatient and just clicked 2 random games anyway. Even so, I think forcing people to download the freebies is quite confusing. It should allow you to skip, or at the very least explain what's going on. Bad design = implying one thing and doing another.

PS. Downloading for 1 whole hour now and for 30 minutes of that it's been estimated time of 1hour 50 min left even though it's been downloading slowly. At this rate I may have to leave it downloading overnight...

Yes. When I made it, I did not think that some people would refuse a freebie.

For myself, I looked at the other games and I tried some of them, but I guess they're just not for me. Having said that, even if I did want to download them, I think it's confusing to be redirected to download one of the freebies (aka Not TT2) when you're clearly being directed to download something else (TT2). And there's no further info on the page, so unless one reads this news page/comments then you don't know that you can just skip ahead anyway

45% downloaded, and still says 1hr 50 min left to download...

Fixed. Now it should not nag you with offering a freebie.

Yay for Alpha startup! I'm not invited yet but I expected that - I only discovered this site and TT2 about a week ago and only got around to donating yesterday, so I should be pretty low on the waiting list. Eagerly checking inbox and junk folder just in case every few hours though... ;-)

While I'm here in limbo -  how large is the waiting list to get in on the Alpha? Considering the awesomeness of TTG I would expect there to be hundreds in line. Not complaining mind you, I fully understand the need to carefully let in one person at a time. Just curious.

Yeah, there are quite some people waiting, but considering the amount of your dontation we will have to move you up in the queue :) For now the first wave of testers brought enough bugs for us to fix so we will be letting in new wave a bit later when we will take care of those bugs. Hopefuly you will be in that wave.

But don't worry about getting into the game later. The later you enter, the more polished the game will be and thus more fun you will have ;)

Thanks berserker! Really looking forward to this, here's a fellow coders prayer that your bugs may be easily reproduced and all located in non-core functionality. ;-)

I didn't donate that amount to "cut in line" (didn't expect to) but rather because I calculated the number of hours I'll likely spend enjoying TT2  vs how long I spent in WoW. Based on cost per hour I'm getting off easy!

i'm checking my inbox once each 10 mins, no invite yet. Guess i'm going to have to wait a while.

But anyway, good luck with the alpha testing.

Anneer here, so the name we give our hero/heroine will be our forum name too - hmmmm. I had given her the name Eriu (the goddess who gave Ireland its name) but as that changes my forum name, I think I'll change it back.  Also anyone playing on a laptop its best to play in full screen mode.  Even when I opened it from my start screen it was still windowed with the task bar.   I also wanted to ask if you would like some proof reading edits for the game?.  I didn't come across any bugs last night when I was playing with windows 8.1.  Gonna give it another run through now and later on I'll play it on my "ancient" laptop and see how it goes on that :)

In your forum control panel under "Heroes" section you can switch which name to display - the hero name or your forum name. Probably it's too confusing so I will remove this feature later when I add hero protraits to the forum - you will be able to select which hero portrait to display as your main one.

You can do the proof reading if you willing to. The game text will be changed in the future as the game evolves, but we can also apply grammar fixes from time to time so it will become better and more edited. If you want to submit grammar mistakes, there are is a ticket in bugs section.
