Since we have recently added artifacts, we are now able to expand on this and add a whole new side to the game - Treasure Hunting! Similar to fishing, you will be able to excavate for treasures here and there. Let's do a breakdown of new things added in today's update. The Archeologist This is where it all begins. If you go to Keepers' Village you will find a new character there - The Archeologist. There is a small quest that you need to complete for him and then he will teach you how to dig for treasure at various spots in the world. The Treasure Spots There are now numerous treasure spots of different sizes and potential rewards. A lot of them have Artifacts in them, so they are worth digging into! Unfortunately, to find the majority of the spots it will require creating a new player - or at least new town. Towns existing prior to this update have a limited number of treasure spots available. Excavation Tools You cannot do excavation without tools. You will need to find some tools - the Archeologist will help you to get started on this as well. Treasure Hunter Perk The perk is working now and improves your treasure hunting process. More complex treasure places will require you to have this perk. The Rewards Treasure spots are perfect places to find artifacts, so let us know in the comments below what kind of artifacts you have found - if any. You might need to raid some ruins though.

I fear that "you will be able to find a new character" is over-optimistic. I have spent a quarter hour in the Village looking for hidden objects, and found a single item that says it must be combined with another, which I have not found. I have sent my hero as near as he will go to the ruins now partly visible. He has stood among the fossil bones. I have read the new message slab. I have re-interviewed all the workers, the Keeper, the Keeper's son, and the Keeper's daughter. All fruitlessly. It may be that those fully competent with HOGs are indeed able to find the new character. I, who know myself to be barely competent with HOGs, am giving up until and unless sufficient spoilers are posted. As with the other HOG elements of the game, Hint and/or Skip buttons would be very welcome to me--even with a very long delay time to discourage too-light use. Surely I am not the only player who very much likes the great bulk of the game, but is often flummoxed by these elements.

Try looking round the edges of the fog, everywhere in the quest location, I am sure you will find someone:)

Archaeologist is where impassable rock/slate used to be. I can only find brush, but I am going back to other locations, such as Heralds, just in case, even though the quest does say "in this area". Plus I seemed to have gotten the number puzzle reward again.

If you bring hero close to the wooden boxes near the archeologist you can move them like rocks in caves. It wasn't obvious and we all spend time searching the location for hidden items.

Not obvious indeed in a game you can collect all things by clicking on them, even where they are otherwise unreachable. They have to be careful.

You can treat the vibration thing is like hero is moved close enough to budge the boxes/rocks himself :)

Well, i have three heros, and with all three of them, my first excavation resulted in nothing being found. Is this intended?

And thanks to ArthasMenethil, I found 3 of the 4 targets. (I'd actually found the other 1 on my own.) Now I'm digging ... and making notes for the Typos and Grammar thread! And admiring the sites in my hometown that I can't dig yet. Beautiful, and beautiful variety!

I find it very sad that when I read the news today right off the bat the comments contain spoilers. Some of us like to try out the things for ourselves. Very disappointed that here it is in the open.

However, it's going to get beyond annoying that an excavated dirtpile looks exactly like an unexcavated one!

After excavating all of the piles of dirt in KV, my mini town and 2 in my main village - I've found exactly 2 items. A vest that I immediately put on instead of the toga and am now running around pants-less. And a club that's of no use to me. I feel that is was a - mostly - useless way to spend my day.

I agree ... I think we need to put "spoiler" on some of these comments

I do not think I will ever know :( I do not think I can find any joy in the game anymore :( I used to like the interaction but all the new players are not interested in trying things for themselves, they want walk throughs and spoilers and to be told what to do from the moment they get on. Maybe I will feel differently tomorrow. I cannot believe after this long I turned the game off tonight and do not even care if my army comes home safe.
