As we are moving towards launching separate website for Totem Tribe 2 and closed alpha release date is getting a bit closer we wanted to shed some light on game's story structure and release plans.
The story of the game is planned to have following parts: Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Epilogue
One of the four chapters is planned roughly the size of original Totem Tribe so you can imagine how big it will be. We have drafts for first two chapters, but a lot of work required to implement them in the game, so we plan to release the closed alpha with Prologue only.
Prologue is basically an extensive tutorial that teaches you all the new stuff while you are being introduced to this new world and the story behind it. This includes one building location and couple of small quest locations.
Small re-iteration to those who missed the part about locations:
In TT2 you will have 2 types of levels - building locations where you can build your village, gather resources, train units, and quest locations where you only explore, solve puzzles, etc.
The quest locations is where the main story is going on, while building levels will have little to no storyline-related stuff, but will have different randomly generated content like puzzles, chests, hidden objects, etc.
Those things will be there to entertain you while you are building things. Then you can use those resources gathered and units trained to send into quest locations and play the storyline stuff (unlike TT1 where you were unable to transfer stuff between levels).

Wow, if each chapter is the size of the original game that will definitely keep me busy for a while.
So basically Questing is out in the world, traveling from one location to the next, while building location is sort of like our home town. Does that mean when we log in each time we play we start at our home base? So we can check in on our building and resources before we head out, or do we pick up where we left off in our journey and have to travel back to our base island to check on things? How will we be traveling from zone to zone? do we have portals? will there be a world map button or a home button depending on which area we are already in? Will there be a wait time between when we ship out resources from our base and when they arrive at our current quest location? At our building base location, will there be a specific location where these randomly generated puzzles/chests/objects appear, or will we have to hunt around the entire base to find them? How often will the random content be available? once every hour? once a day? If we get a chest one day, will we get a puzzle the next? Will the puzzle/chest/hidden objects themselves be random, or will the content of those items be what is random? Meaning, each day you get a random puzzle, a random prize from a chest, or a random hidden object scene?
Will there be a limit to how many units we can train? So many per day? So many per building upgrade? if the units we send from home base to quest location die, how long will it take for them to show up again? will they automatically travel back to the quest location, or will we have to train them and ship them off again? Or will they just respawn at the quest location startup after they die and then run back up to the group?
Thank you so much!

Wow An81angel, so many questions...
I will try to answer those, which are defined by now.
Yes, building location is exactly your town. 1 town = 1 building location. You can have more towns and thus more building locations. You can access them at any time to check the progress of your construction/training/research/resource gathering, etc. You can access any quest location at any time too, but only if your hero is in it. It takes some time for your units/traders to move between locations and transfer resources. There is a world map, I even posted the screenshot of it somewhere in the old news.
As for the random stuff - you get it randomized when you first access the location - puzzles and rewards are randomly placed, but it may take time until you will be able to access some of them (remember obstacles like first and ice walls in TT1). As for the respawnable stuff - there will be small bits of resources appearing randomly from time to time all over the location, so always when you have time to spend, you can just search the area and maybe find something useful. Unlike quest items, resources can be spent and thuse spawned endlessly.
As for the units - like in TT1, each building can only have limited number of units. If you want more - you have to upgrade the building, or build another one. You also need food to feed your people, they are constantly consuming food, so in order to have big army you will need high food production. Once lost, you have to train new units in appropriate buildings again. Since this time around units will cost resources, we cannnot just create them again automatically.

I know I was very put off by the suggestion of having to play real-time and need to be connected to the net all the time... but things like the above have really changed my opinion. The game gets more interesting every time I check and I'm so looking forward to playing it. Count me in as a tester when the time comes.

So do we have to be friends on this website to be able to be allies or maybe enemies on the game? I thought Berseker said it was a different website. But I sent the friend request to An81angel.

@ jeresandy --- being friends on the forum will not make us neighbors in game. the only way to have a chance at being neighbors is if we choose the same game start location at roughly the same time. But i am pretty sure you can be friends in game with out being neighbors. (fyi: accepted)

As for the closed alpha; are you going to be using just internal testers or outside as well? If you are using outside how and when will you be picking people? I am volunteering my services.

We will be inviting people from the comunity, the most active ones, also those who participated in testing of our past games, etc. We will make a separate post when the alpha will be close and announce in detail how people will be picked and when access will be available.

You said that we can have multiple towns, so if we have
upgraded our buildings to level 5 in our first town, will we have to start from level one in the next town we build. If we build an army of say 50 troops in our first town and build a troop of 50 in the next one, will our total troops in each town be added together to make up 100 to fight in one battle or will we have the option of transferring troops from one town to another. I'm asking this because in some online games only certain resources are totaled to share among all locations, while others are kept seperate to each location with the option of transferring?
Thanks in advance Berserker

If you start another town you will have to start building it from scratch, however if you build another barracks there and train units, you can then transfer those units anywhere, gather all in one town or split whatever you see fit. The only limit is your town where units are placed must have enough food to feed them or they start starving and eventually die.
