Conclusions 2012

Conclusions 2012

The year is coming to an end and in order to summarize our work on Totem Tribe 2 and set proper goals we did a small internal in-house testing phase. Although that phase was small it allowed us to see what needs to be done before we will be able to invite people into the game.
Here I will try to detail the work and show what percentage of it is already done so you will have an idea about how long it might take:
#1. Tutorial
Totem Tribe 2 is more complicated game than original one due to the list of new features and increased amount of content, therefore we feel that it's crucial to have a proper tutorial in place before letting people in. The tutorial will be integrated into first game level so you will learn and play at the same time.
Completion - 50%
#2. Sandbox Mode
Since we plan to release the alpha version of the game with a limited number of features we plan to provide a sandbox mode wheere you can just build your villages, train troops, study technologies and interact with other players. This is important so people will always have something to do while they wait until we add more levels to the story mode or add new features.
Completion - 80%
#3. Website
Such ambitious game must have a separate website with proper forum protected from spammers and integrated into the game tightly - website will have a shared account with the game itself and you will have portrait of your hero next to your forum posts or news comments.
Completion - 75%
#4. Polish
A lot of extra little things that needs to be done in order to make the game solid and convenient. This includes interface tweaks, animations, sounds, optimizations, etc.
Completion - 25%
#5. Music
We want this game to have rich and vibrant music score and we already have 33 different tracks ready so our plan is pretty much implemented on this one.
Completion - 90%
What next?
2013 will be the year of Totem Tribe 2 and all of you people who are waiting will be able to play it. However we do understand that once you try it, it might be hard to put it down and we want to provide a version of the game that will be entertaining even in it's alpha stage. That's why we need all that features outlined above to be implemented before we let anyone in. All of you did such a great job waiting for this game for so long and I would like to ask you to keep a little bit of that patience cause it will be well worth it.
The classical adage says - "Festina lente". This is exactly what we are going to do. Happy New Year!

Wow you've got a lot done so far, that is awesome. I'd say alpha will start around march or april, beta mid summer, and final release sometime early fall of 2013. Quick note: no matter how prepared a game may be for the public, there will always be unforeseen bugs on launch day, and there will always be those who get frustrated because of it. my advice to the player ... try to be patient. my advice to the creator ... have tech support ready and able to sooth all fears and irritations the moment something goes wrong (because there is nothing worse to a player than a launch day bug and a voiceless creator). Happy New Year's Eve!!!

Thanks so much for the information as it does give an approximate timeline for release. I just get more and more excited everyday I check and find new updates on the game. And I promise to tell all my friends about TT2 when its released. I'll use the world map as my cover photo on FB if thats okay with you Berserker.

I'm excited but still just wishing it would be a game I could just download and buy like TT and TTG. I am optomistic and I will give it a try but I don't play MMO's so I don't have much hope that I will like it. I hate chat windows of all types! I have checked the site every day for news ever since TTG came out. So my willingness to be loyal should be selfevident. I'll keep watching and hoping that the single player option will be as great as you have insinuated. I don't talk to my neighbors in real life so why would I want to in a game!

brendatimj, If you enjoyed original games, you will enjoy TT2 too - it will play and feel very similar. anneer, all pictures released on our website to the general public can be considered as promo material and ofcourse you can use to promote the game (and using it as cover photo looks exactly promotion to me).

Hi Berserker...just a thought - I have posted the TT2 wallpaper as my cover photo on FB but you cant see the TTII logo because my profile picture covers it. Would it be a lot of hassle to move the logo to one of the top corners so it is visible?? FOR EVERYONE ELSE - I am replaying TT gold for the 7th time and I have, as of yet, been unable to solve the screen puzzle (the 2 TV structures). Is there a specific way of clicking the arrows in order to get the clear pictures or is it just trial and error. I'm sick of it stumping me :-( - all help appreciated.

@Anneer I presume you mean the picture puzzles in the Egypt levels? If so, my trick is to use a 'better/worse' technique. I scroll through each arrow (I think it's probably 8 clicks until you get back to the start) and see what makes the image look better or worse. If I can't figure it out, I move to the next arrow button. At some point I manage to get it looking better, and I move on to the next arrow, and so on. Also, it helps to try to figure out which is the top/bottom of the image. If it looks right, but the puzzle does not appear solved, it's usually a case of moving the image up/down until it works. Hope that helps!

anneer, I've added a Facebook Cover Photo to the list of wallpapers. You can download it now. As for picture puzzles - you might want to search our forums, I recall there were a couple of threads about it there. There is no specific way of clicking cause the pictures are randomly scrambled each time.

I've had bad luck with MMO's also and prefer to play casual/solo so I'm glad to see that feature. It will feel more like I'm playing TT/TTG and not a MMO. What I'm wondering is this... will there be one cost and the game is yours to play forever, or it will it be a monthly cost, or a case where you can pay to unlock new areas? Also, will you be selling items for real money to enhance the game (I hate that since I can never afford extra items). Just curious. I played Wizard 101 for awhile and it can get pricey. Plus, there was no solo option so in order to advance, you had to make friends and it was incredibly hard to find players in some areas, because they had already surpassed that level and some levels were just ghost towns. Fighting was impossible w/o other players. I finally gave up. Thank you.

PMcOuntry, The game will be free, but you will be able to purchase some extra items for real money. You can find those items for free too, so its only speeds things up. There won't be anything that can be purchased but cant be found for free. Totem Tribe 2 could be pricey only if you decide to seriously compete with other players. If you play casual/solo, I think you can do fine without paying a cent at all. Ofcourse we will be encouraging people to pay money cause it will allow us to develop and update the game, but I hate myself the games where you have to pay real money for anything you do to see at least tiny bit of progress. Thats why I say that Totem Tribe 2 will be good to play without money, but great if you spend some on it.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm glad to hear that playing will be free. That is very refreshing news! I have to say, playing the game for free, might allow me to buy some items with real money, should I feel the need arise if they are priced decently. I also understand your need to make money to keep updating the game. I also like the idea that I will be able to start out as a solo player and then if I decide I want to, go into multiplayer mode. That is a great idea. That way nobody is forced into playing an MMO for those of leery of the idea. I can only think of one person in my life who will probably play the game with me, which means I would have to friend strangers for help, which is really the part that bothers me. I can't wait!
