Item Crafting, Enhancing, Repair, and Disassembly

Item Crafting, Enhancing, Repair, and Disassembly

Today we added item manipulation features to compliment the new Artifacts and Treasure Hunting features. The new item system is now fully implemented - as it has been planned from the very beginning. Now you will be able to to craft new items, enhance artifacts, repair your gear, and disassemble spare ones to get materials.

Let's do the breakdown of new things in today's update:

Item Idols

There are 4 new idols added in today's update. Each one of them allows you to do one of the four features - crafting, enhancing, repairing, or disassembling. We will let you find them on your own. However, I will mention that each of them is on one of four quest locations: Herald's Home, Opposition Hideout, Keepers' Village, and Ruins of New Kyiv.

Item Perks

A number of perks are now working as of this current update. Namely - Craft Item, Disassembly, Disintegration, Antiquarian, Enhance Item, and Conjurer. These perks greatly increase your chances for success when dealing with specific item manipulations with idols. One of the idols will not even allow you to do anything without perks.

Ores and Crystals

Ore & crystal materials were available since the beginning, but they now actually make sense. They are the core of the item mechanic and are required for everything - crafting, repairing, enhancing. Better materials yield better results when you use them. Their prices in the Cash Shop have been revised as well.

Achievements

New item-related achievements were added in this update:

  • Blacksmithing (Create X items)
  • Skillful Hands (Repair X points of attrition)
  • Imbue with Magic (Enhance items X times)
  • Infusion (Upgrade item from Normal to Enhanced)
  • Refinement (Upgrade item from Enhanced to Enchanted)
  • Selection (Upgrade item from Enchanted to Rare)
  • Glorification (Upgrade item from Rare to Legendary)
  • Canonisation (Upgrade item from Legendary to Godly)
  • Recycling (Disassemble an item)
  • What Has Been Gold... (Disassemble Enhanced item)
  • ...Turns to Dust (Disassemble Enchanted item)
    Rare Junk (Disassemble Rare Item)
    Forgotten Legends (Disassemble Legendary item)
  • Precious Treasure (Dig X treasures)
  • I Love Boxes (Open X chests)
  • Just a Scrap (Pick X resource items from the ground)
  • I Found Something! (Pick X consumable items from the ground)
  • Guardians of Time and Space (Gather X gems)

As a bonus we added a few achievements that are not related to items:

  • City of Doors (Open X doors)
  • Puzzle Cracker (Solve X puzzles)
  • Nothing Can Stop Me (Destroy X obstacles)
  • Go Fishing (Catch X fishes)
  • Thorn Apart (Clean the toughest Thorns)
  • Into Pieces (Break the biggest Rock Slates)
  • On the Other Side (Cross the widest Rift)
  • Firefighter (Extinguish the hottest Flame)
  • Global Warming (Melt the coldest Ice)
  • Mysterious Wall (Eliminate the largest Jotun Crystals)

Achievements start working from today's update. In other words, if you have opened doors or destroyed obstacles before this update, they will not count toward City of Doors achievement.

Conclusions?

This is probably the final large content update until Alpha 5, as we will now be more focused on Alpha 5 content - like Renaissance Age. However, we will be fixing bugs and tweaking stuff.

Like always, please let us know about your experience with crafting/enhancing/repair/disassembly, in detail, in the comments below. Let us know what have you tried to do with items, what have you got and your overall impressions with all of the above. Thanks.

The Disassembly perk is still shown as 'not working' on the Reskill display.

Well not sure about that, it is working for me. Sandy Sue, Level 50, - After an hour and a half of disassemble, of duplicate items in my equipment inventory,  I have 247 purified Iron Ore ore,  78 purified Copper ore, 48 purified Titanum Ore, 27 purified Meteorite Ore,  6 Purified Adamant Ore, 44 Purified Cobalt Ore and finally 40 Onyx Crystal. Now what I am going to do with all this is beyond me right now. I just wanted to let you all know what you can get. I will get the rest figured out soon. I like this, feel like I got something for all that stuff I could not use.

Oh, great fun, sorry that i don't have enough perks. At last I can dispose of all Renaissance items.

Sandy Sue, you will find good use of your ores and crystals!

I have a leaf item with -2 era requirement. More than unlikely someone can get that while still being at new dawn age, and even so -1 would be the same.

My thoughts, quickly:

I like the idols and what they can do.  I'd like more perk points to be able to at least access some without taking away from my other abilities, lol but setting that aside, I love the disassembly one.

That being said, I'd like them more if they were hidden/blocked for a time in our dwellings, to be discovered or made accessible as you progress through the game.  Like the dwelling chests.  At least then our heroes would not have to travel the globe, taking away any food perk bonuses for example, and leave our domains without hero protection.

With the caves and various quest locations our heroes are out and about on the world map an awful lot and it would be nice to be able to use the idols while waiting for our heroes (and armies if applicable) to reach their destinations so we can accomplish more than one thing at a time.  For those with one hero travel time is down time and the ability to multitask would be an efficient use of game time, imo.

This.

I would prefer if we didn't need hero to interact with them. They can stay at current locations, if we can enter the location and only interact with idols without hero present.

Or all of them to be placed in the dwelling / 4 first towns with 1 idol each town.

River states my concerns exactly :) I have those same feelings about caves and idols and perks.

Being able to enter the quest location to access the idols without needing the hero would be an acceptable alternative.

As far as placing idols in the domain, I'd opt for the dwelling.  Not everyone can make more than 2 extra towns or may not want to.   See, for example, Berserker's domain.  :-)

I would rather have feedback on the actual idol functions, their placement is a secondary issue and in fact was forced to be placed on quest locations. Regular towns including dwelling can be lost (due to destruction or conversion) and thus you may loose your idols. That's why another idol of fortune was placed in Keepers' Village and now new idols on quest locations. Sure, there will be duplicate idols for convenience in regular towns, but it will be later.

I have used only Disassembly and Repair by now, taking all perks from Fishing, and just in time, because my Arabic Axe was down to 5% and I was able to repair it up to 25%. But it would be better if I knew is there a relation between the type of item you disassemble (collar, torso, belt and so on) and the age it belongs, and the type and amount of resource it gives when disassembled (for example 1 Lorica Segmentata Torso gives 1 Titanum Ore).  I don't have enough items and time to make a statistic myself, and 40% chance at disassembly doesn't help much in investigation lol.

It is frustrating to run between quest locations in order to use the new idols, between caves in order to look for something I might have missed, and  between towns to fight monsters or protect them. I have paths built almost everywhere but this doesn't help much.

There are tiers or items and tiers (quality) of materials. Tier is basically every 10 levels required. For example items that do not require level to equip are tier 0, items which require level 10 are tier 1 and so on. They use/bring corresponding ores when you disassemble/repair/craft. However it is only a rule of thumb and there might be some exceptions here and there.

Speaking about hero required everywhere and a lot of time needed to reach cave/quest location/whatever, the only reasonable solution i can see that can be done promptly is to allow magic carpet item to be used on the hero when he is moving alone to one of your owned locations (one of your towns or quest location).

I am fine with this.

I like this idea. Everything about the game is time consuming - so I have needed to be conscious of how I spend my hero's time. Sometimes it is even difficult to find time to upgrade hero level. :)  Travel time is one aspect that has kept me from using idols so far in the game.

The other factor is perk allocation. Once I have allocated everything it is not an easy task to re-allocate for the benefit of idol perks.

The concept of crafting, repairing, etc., sounds like a nice idea.  Disassembling is entertaining.  Having to move my hero from location to location was irritating.  My hero is always busy.  This was another time-consuming, tedious task to do.  So I echo everyone's comments here.

However, if there was some sort of magic carpet to bring the hero back quickly, that would help significantly.  Not having to have our hero present would be even better :)   For example, perhaps being able to send some other military unit to the idols.

The quest location cannot be accessed without hero present there, this is part of the core design and cannot be changed, so please stop asking for it.

I think that using the Magic Carpet on the hero would be an excellent way to move them quickly.   When you have a war declared it makes it next to impossible to enjoy other aspects of this game.  Magic Carpet would allow you to do both.

I love the idea of a magic carpet for the hero.
