Yes! You are reading it correctly! We've considered a lot of issues, like piracy, global recession, tendency of players to spend more time online, etc. In the end we decided that players should be able to pay for the game as much as they want to pay for it!
Full version of the game will be accessed for free, but there will also be premium items for sale which will simplify your gaming progress.
Making the game free allows us to release beta-version of the game for general audience as early as possible and then continue improving it from feedback from all players, not from limited test group.
Let us know what you think about it in comments below!

If it is free and the items cost money, that is fine with me. I would like to support all efforts on this game. Please count me as a loyal supporter and possibly for the beta testing? LOL. Can't wait.
Even if it becomes a monthly fee of 10 dollars or so, I will pay it.

There won't be monthly fee, we want to have all people play it, but naturally those who support the game with money will have appropriate advantages.
The good thing is - you and you alone will decide how much money will this game worth! :)

misbhvn,
We are commited to open public access to the game this year.
Sandy804,
Sorry, it is really too early to talk about items, let alone prices.

Wow! I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I want to save my money... on the other hand, I want to support a great game. I'd much rather pay a one-off price for the full game than little bits for upgrades. But I suppose that's the beauty of this system: people can pay what they want for whatever they want.
My only question is: can you guys really make a profit that way? If so, that's an impressive customer base you've got!

It will be more profitable than the old model of TT1 for sure. This system will allow us to release the game without all the planned features and players could support us while we continue to improve the game.
It's not a secret that TT2 is designed to be really huge, ten times bigger than Totem Tribe Gold or even more. To do all the features it will require us around 5 years to make.
That's why we plan to release beta version to all who is anxious to try it out. If these players would enjoy the beta they could start supporting us with money right from the start while we continue working on the game and updating it. Early players would be able to see the game shaping up right in front of their eyes and we, the developers, will earn a bit of extra investment to do all the great stuff planned out.
Basically beta version would be a sandbox version + tutorial + multiplayer, where players could play with their village(s) and kingdom - build structures, train units, trade, explore the world around them, etc. That's the basic mechanics of the game we are working on right now. We want to release it so the players will have something to have fun with, while we are making the main storyline and quests.

The main reason for which I don't like or play bowser games is money, you end up paying much, much more than for an ordinary game. The other reason is time.
I will make an exception for TT2, because it is still one of my favourite games, I think that you, guys, are good at what your doing and potentially this sequel can be great.
But, to be honest, if I will be limited by time, resources, etc, I think I will loose interest pretty soon.

vivia,
Usually in this type of payment model you are paying for legalised cheats to save time. Bad thing that a lot of games that utilize this monetization model add boring stuff by design to force people to pay to skip that boring stuff. I don't like that approach either. We will try to make this game to be good to play for free and great when you spend some cash on it.
What we want to achieve can be easily described by taking TT1 as an example. Remember how mad you were when stuck trying to find that last root (or any other hidden object). Imagine there were an option to pay ~ $1 and to be able to find it instanly? Would such option make the game worse?

Berserker, you are right, and what you can count on is a feedback. It is great for me as a player to tell you as developers what I want and what is bothering me and I suppose from your point of view must be really interesting to be able to see what everyone is doing in a world that you created.

It's not just interesting, but very useful. The problem with feedback is that often people say and do different things, and what they DO is way more improtant than what they say. So this will allow us to see what people actually do and react accordingly. Very helpful to be able to improve the game in a right way.

I didnґt like this kind of payement in the Garden of time in Facebook. We need to spend money to have better conditions to play. The game was nice, but then they put so many news in the game and more ways to sell it. I stop to play it. You know that I was a big fan of all TT since the beggining. I like to play alone, not to ask help to others to play and I prefer to pay for the game like before. TT is for me the best game that I plaied till now. Do you remember me, Berserker? Melasso.

Yes, I do remember you, Melasso.
It's sad that you had bad experience in the past, but we will make everything possible to make your gaming with Totem Tribe 2 top notch!
Sandy804,
When it will be close to beta-testing we will post the details on our site.
