SPOILER: Keepers Village Puzzle

I've tried several times now to solve the puzzle in keepers village but just don't seem to be able to solve it. It's now my third day of trying and I'm getting pretty disheartened to say the least. Is there a kind sole now reading this that might possibly be able to help me as I'm completely stuck, I would be extremely grateful.

Ok here goes, there are flowers around the puzzle. White, yellow and red. there are 3 hints given. Figure the difference of the clues. such as 9 = 7 is a difference of 2 either plus or minus (I can never keep it straight) take the white, yellow and red add or subtract using 2. If you get a double digit, use the second digit.  then dial in a number for white, hit the button, dial in the number for yellow, hit the button, dial in the red, hit the button. It is not a room you enter, you just get the reward. Which for me was a building permit, and 2 books. I hope this helps.

Thank you Sandy I'll give it a go, now trying the ruins and will go back to the village at some point as I can't even find the village itself may have a break for a day or so.

Wooow, tbh i still dont understand the math behind your solution but i solved the puzzle with your algorithm, thanks alot :)

ermm actually i got the idea, i think so, let say one hint says 6=0 and i have 4 white and 1 yellow and 8 red flowers so your solution is doing this :: 6=0 ==> 6 difference(+ or -) so 4-6 is negative 2 so we say 4 white is 14 and so 14-6 =8 and for yellow we say it 11-6=5 and for red which is 8-6= 2

so the magic number is 852 and voila the that 6=0 hint was the correct hint and solved the puzzle :)

The math is simple - if the hint is 6=0 this means that in this case 7=1, 8=2, 9=3 and so on, then you replace real digits with the new digits generated by the hint and you have one variant of solution. Do this for the rest of the hints and you have all 3 variants. One of them is the solution. This can be seen in the table itself.

Everybody can replace his/her numbers directly in the violet cells of the table and it will calculate automatically the possible variants in the dark green cells. Or you can download the table on your computer and use it to solve the puzzle there (in case there are many people wishing to use it in the same time).

For some reason I can't edit the table. Sorry, sorted now. Worked perfectly!

Okay - got it - I had to make a copy of it first

If you want to use the table online, click on a cell (a violet one in this case, the others cannot be edited), then the cell is outlined with a blue line, and just type in the digits. When you have filled in all necessary data in the violet cells, the result shows in the dark green cells below.

And my hints are:

Are you sure they are 10? If it is really so try 1 or 0 instead of 10. I can't think of anything else. Please give a feedback for others that could have the same problem.

I believe there should be three hints.  Maybe you haven't found the correct hint yet.

I finally got this... a few additional pointers in case anyone else is as thick as me :)

Count CLUMPS of flowers, not individual flowers.  I had one clump of white flowers but got confused trying to count individual ones.  It's less confusing for the other colours because the clumps are more, well, clumpy.

I tried to overcomplicate the puzzle by thinking it was modulo arithmetic - it wasn't.  It is just a transposition code.  Here is a low tech way of doing it:

1. Write out the digits 0-9 on a bit of paper.  Then take your first hint - for example 3=7.

2. On the row below, write "7" below the "3".  Then continue the digits in order on the second row - wrap around when you get to the end, like this:

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (row 1)

4 5 6 7 8 9 0 1 2 3 (row 2, using clue 3=7)

3. Then choose your flower numbers in the top row, and take the answer numbers from the second row.  For instance, if your flowers are 1, 5, 3 you would get answers 5, 9, 7.

4. If that doesn't work then repeat the process for the other hints. 

Finally, note that there are only 9 total possibilities for the solution - so if all else fails just do an exhaustive search.  Slide row 2 above over a notch nine times and you will have all the possible solutions.

You don't have to write it on paper, the other circle with numbers there can serve the same purpose :)

I used the tool, got three answers, tried each in turn and none worked.

I had 7 white, 6 yellow and 2 red flowers.  Clues were 4=1, 3=9. 1=5.

This gave answers of 439, 328, 546.  None of them worked.
