Heroes only live for 150 days. If you do not achieve a victory in that time they are destroyed by the game-generated apocalypse, forcing you to either start over or make a new hero from the beginning. As part of that, your level 50 hero becomes new-born when you restart it and that means starting from pre-dawn tutorial etc.

There are currently three victories implemented. War Victory, Wealth Victory and Culture Victory. These correspond to those achievement categories for hero achievements. To earn a victory in each of these categories you have to complete certain tasks. They each have different tasks. They are not easy but they are not meant to be. There are rewards for achieving victories that make the difficulty levels worth the work.
The development team can probably give you specifics about each victory or they are posted somewhere in the discussion section of the forum. I have done wealth victory and that entails a lot of building for architects in town and in a quest location called Zodchiy. Once you complete the architects' buildings you have to build a series of structures for the mayor of Zodchiy and once that is done, you can complete your Wonder of the World which is a building that you have available in your own build menu in town.
