150 day life span

Have spoken to numerous new players who are astounded when told their hero will end at 150 days. In my opinion, this should be added somewhere in the game description, so players may not remain at level 10 at 89 days old!

Yes, it’s the whole idea of ‘you play only to… do better NEXT time’ that feels really unique and unexpected. However giving out too soon that in this game you get to repeat things over and over, and some of the things are quests, with their walking back and forth and unskippable dialogue (and you might have no memory issues), might turn out not exactly attractive for players considering starting the game.

Gromus could tell us when we get to cave that we have 150 days to get things done.  Make up a story that we age much faster in Teya ,

The story seems to be that the "Jotun", which seems to be an hydra, is preparing a cataclysm over Teya, so Gromus at the end of tutorial could simply say something like "You don't need to hurry but don't linger too much either, we know that the God-emperors prepare a cataclysm for this planet, we have about five months." and in the pop-up that say you can reach 6 different victories, to be very clear to everyone "You have 150 days to reach one of the 6 possible victories, if you don't, all your towns will be destroyed".

There are pro's and con's for and against the idea of telling it and I have decided it is better not to. This may put unnecessary pressure on some people too early when they are not yet familiar with the game and not yet hooked enough so they quit prematurily.

If  you waited till maybe 2nd visit to Gromus after jester, player should be hooked by then

I've been playing this game for 8 years.  To be honest, I'm taking a long break right now and one of the primary reasons is the pressure to get it all done in 150 days.  That shortened life span, coupled with my real life responsibilities makes it very hard for me to get to victory or even max my hero.  I have at most a couple of hours a day to play and nothing gets done in that time.  I got tired of feeling rushed.  And I always feel rushed when I play now.   This is even more true now that there is so much more to do and randomly spawning monsters to keep at bay.

I remember when the life span went from 180 days to 150 and I was very leery of the impact, especially on new players who discover that they have to start over in 5 months.  I said as much and I still believe that 180 days is a good round number (splitting the calendar in 2 makes it easy for people to follow) for life span.  That extra 30 days might go a long way to relieving pressure, whether it's game imposed or self-imposed and people might be less likely to fear the reaper as it were.

What River did not mention is, that being Leader of an alliance puts a whole lot more pressure on you.

1. you have to do the research, to get a diplomatic building high enough to house everybody

2. you have to have the resources to build the bloody thing!!

If you have never had to do that in a short amount of time AND have to do that over and over again (though leadership is shared in our alliance) the pressure is enormous. 180 days would really ease the pressure, even for us experienced players!

Leaders really feel the pinch when new continents spawn every 45 days or so. Then the rush to level up the diplomatic building or start a new hero to accommodate the settlement of a new continent is on and the pressure is amplified.  I love this game and the people who play it.  I want to see it go on and on and on.

and because of the time we need to get the dipl. building at the right level, we have to start a new hero at about day 75, so we don't have to leave people out of the alliance because there is no room yet, which makes them vulnerable to aggressive players.

How do other leaders handle this? share your experiences please! :)

This has been asked before so I doubt berserker will change that now. He might have to for when space age/science victory is released though (or slightly decrease the amount of science points required for each technologies), and if he does, then I think he should also increase the rule that makes players with 149 days able to attack people with 90, as 179 versus 90 would be more unfair.

Now that I think about it, you can do the following when you don't have enough room in your alliance: either make multiple alliances with union or vassality, or become the protector of players that are not in the alliance. To still have one chat for everyone, use discord, this way you can even have one thing you requested years ago: another discord channel for deputies only. Also people that have only 1 hero and reached apocalypse/victory that are out of any alliance until they rebuild an alliance building: they sort of wouldn't be anymore, they would still be on discord and have a protector. And a positive thing about discord is that, if you use the ingame chat only for useful things instead of just saying hello and good bye, it will blink less often and only when you know it's important.

Berserker can be reassured: alliances ingame would still be needed in order for some people to see when an offline player is attacked so he can warn other alliances and move units as a commander, but you can have smaller alliances, with say 15 players per alliance there should always be at least one online to do that.

Thanks.  I appreciate the suggestions but, we have done all of the above and none provide the ease and convenience of having people together.  Even having discord.  That's unwieldy and requires hopping from app to game and for those that don't want to use two devices or monitors at one time it's very inconvenient.  There is also the issue with vassalities and diplomatic status that I am unclear has been fixed. If we had an in-game chat for vassals and senior alliances that would work.
