If you destroy a building (e.g. Laboratory, Marketplace, Training Grounds) after upgrading, do you keep the upgrades? Or do you have to rebuild the buildings to utilize the upgrades? I'm especially wondering about the extra inhabitant you get with the Marketplace.

Yes, it is safe to destroy them. Completed researches will keep their effects.
However, you will still need some buildings for constructing/upgrading others,
e.g. Laboratory for upgrading Towers to Frost and Fire.

Yeah, I wouldn't destroy the building though unless I need more room to put a tower or a attack unit.
