Future of the game - Waxing nostalgic

Been wondering where this game is going. Will there be additional chapters? Has there been any thought to possibly rolling back evolution of the hero in chapter one to medieval age? Lengthening research, leveling times. This might spur some increase in war component, returning to conventional land attacks.

Seems strange to me that all of Chapter One takes place in medieval age, yet aerial and nuclear weaponry is available for offense.

I understand the need to expand the platforms to increase player base, but haven't heard anything in a very long time about where the game is going when that is accomplished.

Will Chapter 2 have an additional 150 days and 50 levels? and 3, 4, and 5?

Will there be sequels, that allow import of current hero stats, etc

I'm sure I am not the only player who has wondered these things! :))

We have been focused (and still focused) on making browser/mobile version of the game and it took us more than this year and will take more time in the future too until it is fully polished, thats #1 priority which takes 99% of our time. Chapters are story related and do not relate to ages, in theory you can beat the whole story in any age.

so you are saying, nothing is planned in the future?

Bers ... A year ago in the Upcoming Random Ruins news thread you said, and I quote ...

Yes, we will be working on Secret Library, after releasing this.

And I thought I saw somewhere else that it was being worked on.

However none of us are getting any younger and we really really need to complete Act I in our lifetimes in order to depart happy and not frustrated wondering what we missed out on so please consider giving yourselves a change of focus for just a couple of hours a day in order to work on the final part before going back to your mobile tweaking, your mind will definitely appreciate the short break because "a change is as good as a rest" but nowhere near as much as we will appreciate your hard work when we can finally enter the library.

Ruins took significantly more time and money to complete than expected, I have fired the level designer guy since then because of that. Priorities have changed. Without new players there would be not enough income to support the game running, let alone adding new content, that's why we are fully focused on web/phone version of the game. With those versions we would be able to find new partners who would promote the game to their audience.

Truth is, in this day and age there are less and less players that play this type of games on Windows. Majority of casual gamers are on mobile. Porting the game to mobile is a question of survival.

I'm with Sammy and Centian. It would be great to at least hear about the planned project timeline for the start of the secret library and the plans as to what life span the Hero will have, when there are several chapters to play. This, I would say, is already planned out by you.
I guess most players understand that a developement to reach a broader audience is necessary and I would say that all of the players are waiting patiently. So, some insight from you from time to time into what will come next and what the (at least planned) time frame is, would be really awesome and make waiting a bit easier. Thanks

The timespan will be the same, I never hinted it would change

The Secret Library is the end of a chapter and thus has to be something significant. I don't want to to release something half-baked for the sake of releasing it, therefore it is impossible how much time it would take, especially since we haven't even started the previous large task at hand. I have been hinting our next work in progress, i.e. I have promised it is likely we will release phone version by the end of this year and we did it.

You have completed the phone version now. Then you went on to  adding perks. Then the next thing was "making the early ages great again". Then there was the translation to German, and now you're asking for suggestions as to what language might be next. There has also been the addition now of monster towns/dens that can plunder and attack heroes. Seems you've been busy doing everything BUT game progression itself. You say that it's all about getting new players on board, but when we tell you that new players are leaving and why, you don't want to hear it.

Saying that you don't want to rush things and put out something half baked seems a bit dismissive of player's frustrations considering the game has been in development for what, 8 years or so? How much time do you need? Do you even have a timeline or will we just be getting random changes and useless additions for the foreseable future? It's not reasonable to expect fans and players to wait for this length of time with no end in sight. It's not reasonable to get angry or dismissive when we complain about it either.

You say that you can't go forward with one aspect of the game because the artist left to go to the war. Have you not considered getting another artist? I mean, the war might go on for years, and who knows if that artist will ever come back to work for you. Is everything on hold just because of one person? There are a lot of artists out there desperate for an opportunity and a good gig. So that excuse doesn't hold water anymore. The issue of the game being stalled has nothing to do with one artist going to war and more to do with a lack of incentive?

All these years and all these excuses and distractions, and we all keep donating and donating.....

What did I say about incentive?

Paradoxis voiced my opinions in a nutshell.
Can we ask that you please address what she brought up instead of being ignored or dismissed???

  1. The game never took off financially and generating less and less money over time, especailly now. It generates enough money to pay for the severs and support the game, but not enough to pay for the new content.
  2. The phone version, the localizaiton, were things aimed to combat the situation by bringing more players and making it a bit more profitable. Right now I cannot say it worked. Maybe time will tell.
  3. Changes like perks and creature habitats were made to add at least something new for the game and the loyal players that still with us, despite the fact that we will probably will not get back our investment on those updates anyway
  4. War is a Force Majeure, but we are trying to do what we can
  5. You are posting multiple toxic messages on forums from new account. Read the rules, especially #1, while you are being banned.

Just one thing about arts for space age buildings: can't you use placeholder ones that look great by using some public domain ones until you get the real ones ?

It's a small team with a limited income, unless we all do our best, to help and encourage new players to stay and donate, it will stay that way.    Also, would not hurt to recommend it, to people outside the game, that you think might enjoy it.

Also, when a man or woman, makes the ultimate sacrifice, by going to war for their country, suggesting there are plenty of people, who could take their job is a horrible thing, to say.  These are people, not machines.

not to mention that they are updating 2 games, this and GUNROX, so they are spread pretty thin to keep players of both games happy

You know what else would make this game great? If you removed the 150 day playing limit.
I understand that it was made for a reason, whether a game plot, replayability or so people would spend money to hurry up building things (which is more likely), but that is what ruins the fun for me, and probably some other people.
I really tried to play this game, at first its fun, and then you start counting days, because YOU KNOW you won't be able to reach the final age and all your progress will disappear. So will your quests. Not everyone has the time to play this game all day.
So mobile version, or web version, or pc version, it doesn't matter. As long as people will constantly look at the daycount and will be worried that their progress is going to disappear soon, they won't be interested to either continue playing the game or replay the game.
Some people want to play a chill game where they can build cities and fight other players, enemies, do puzzles and quests. But the biggest enemy in the game is time, unfortunately.
