How do you change the color of the gems?

I was reading the other Q&A and a couple mentioned changing the color of the gems to make them easier to see. I would like to know how this is done.

This involves hacking the code so I won't tell you cause we wont give support for altered games, however maybe someone else from this forum will tell you how if you want to do it on your own risk ;)

Thank you for the information. I think I'll just tough it out. It's just hard to see some of the gems if they are sitting on smoething that is the same color. Thank yo again.:)

I don not recommend doing this as, after trying to find a white gem on Frozen Vale, I tried to change the colour of the last gem to red. RESULT - total collapse of the whole game. I had to redownload the whole game & I'd got as far as the Comet Crash Site. In future I shan't take notice of any other Forums but this one. I apologise empthatically to the writer of the original programme.:o

You don't have to hack the code. You just have to change the picture. Jay is Games in their walkthrough tells you how to do it. Just look under "Totem Tribe Cheats" and click on "Show Spoiler." That's what I did towards the end of the game and it was so much easier. I changed mine to just regular 2D squares. I opened up the images in Photoshop and just changed the color and saved it. But what I would recommend, if the gem is white for example I changed mine to a black square (64 x 64, the current allotted space for the gem). But I had version 1.02 of the game. I didn't have any problems. But the results may vary. Also, make a backup of the folder before you start altering anything. I can't guarantee this will work, but it did for me. http://jayisgames.com/archives/2009/01/totem_tribe.php#walkthrough The pictures for the gems are stored in this folder: C:\Program Files\Totem Tribe\data\texture\game\item (from Jay Is Games)

I found all the gems without painting them (and I'm almost 50 and wear trifocals and am legally blind without my glasses). If you want to take a chance on crashing the game and having to start over, more power to you. But it IS possible to find them all without painting them. I DID use the gem utility, just to find out what I was missing and where (and because when you're looking for a missing green gem it pays to look in grass and trees rather than on the beach or in the water). ;) Plus painting the gems won't get you the ones on offshore hidden islands or in chests you can't reach until you can use fire or swim or in chests that only appear if you solve certain puzzles or hidden in areas that you need to use clairvoyance magic or the sphere of clarity to see. And I believe those are probably the gems that give people the most trouble when they're using the gem utility and still can't find all the gems.
