i have TT, i have placed all of the totems on cradle of the north and was then defeated and had to start that one over. i was wondering , how do you get to mist island? :confused

You're supposed to destroy the seal. There is no reason to start over when you do. After you destroy the seal, Mist Island opens up to explain, which sets up the second half of the game.
