I began playing the game 2 days ago and invited my 13 year old son last night. A few minutes ago a chat of people who are not part of my friends list started and I am unable to turn it off. There has been some profanity and I have been informed I can't turn it off. This is a wonderful game that I know my son would love, but without some sort of option to turn off profanity or chat altogether I and other parents will not want their young teens to play this. Thanks for listening!

Profanity is censored already.

Unfortunately there are ways around the censoring, and people were definitely using some deliberate misspellings of swearwords on CC today. I personally don't mind it, but I know some people do, and it would be nice to be able to mute the chat in CC at times.

Well, i hate to be the one to say this, but if we're talking about a 13 year old, i'm pretty sure he's heard worse and used worse when you're not around :) Either way, i agree that sometimes cc and even ac gets annoying and would like to be able to turn it off at times.

You can add specific player to ignore list to never hear from him again it thats something unpleasant, not obvious insults or explicit language. If it's something really explicit, then you can use "report to moderators" button and report that player - he will be punished. This game is pretty friendly comparing to all those toxic online games out there with hateful communities, most of the players here are 30+ adults so you and your son should do fine here. We are also considering option of disabling CC completely, but socialization could be an important aspect of the game later on so we are a bit undecided on that one.

Rather than disable common chat, perhaps there could be opt in options to go to different rooms. One for game related questions and one where people blow off steam or just joke around and when it's minimized just eliminate the common/specific room chat lines from appearing on the screen? I'd also like to point out that with the adventures in Karfaree, perhaps this is not a game for a 13 year old but better left for a few years where profanity such as the writer saw last night won't be a shock.

For players under 18 we have the most sensitive content blocked, i.e. Domina won't even talk to you, but there still might be too serious themes. Speaking about blowing steam - I would rather not have players doing that on public, alliance chats are more suited for that. Ideally I want common chat for game-related questions and basic social interaction like asking to join alliance, etc. But I have no idea yet on how to make it work as people would still write whatever they want.

Not sure how hard that would be to do but one way would be allowing only pre-created sentences used in CC and choose-able from some kind of list

That's sort of why we suggested a tavern chat room beyond common Bers. You remember? way back when. . . lol

I understand, but our resources are limited and we are focusing on new interesting content in the first place. Redesigning chat system will take a lot of effort without clear gains.

I think players just need to use the report button for now until a better time to work on smaller issues like chat come along. This is an alpha after all. And the chat in this game is nothing compared to other games online.

I'd rather the content be done before a tavern chat tbh :-) I was just suggesting it as something to put on your idea board for later in the game when more people show up who are't nearly as nice as this group. :-)
