I just spent a great deal of time explaining to a player that played in 2 alphas, the importance of a good alliance. Unfortunately, because he did not understand this earlier, he is now leaving the game. He had "gone it alone." thinking that would keep him out of the wars. He did not realize that he was more likely to be attacked, due to that fact that he did not have diplomatic relations with anyone. I too, made this mistake in the beginning of A4. Luckily, after I was attacked, my attacker explained what made me a desirable target and I was able to get in an alliance right away. The social aspect of this game is very important and I really believe that no player can ignore that. And while not every player is friendly, most are. Maybe Z-man could have a quest where they have to become mutual friends with 1 or more players. This would get them started at communicating with other players. Then maybe Bulat could explain, in his special manner, that banning together with others, will improve their chances of survival. While no alliance can guarantee the safety of any member, the player still stands a better chance of surviving if he is in an alliance. And they need to know that. And Bers, I swear that I am not the aggressor. - This time :)

I agree with what you have said here. It's very true. I tried the "alone" thing in A4 ,which also made me an easy target. Unfortunately I'm hardheaded and tried the same thing at the beginning of A5. And while been part of an alliance does not guarantee safety, it does allows you to ease into the game and learn from more experience players. I have also noticed this alpha so many "gray" players at different levels with protectors and I ask, if you want to "protect" that player, why not bring to your alliance?. If we invite friends into the game and want to protect and teach them the alliance would really help with that aspect. Many players join the game because of previous experience with original TT, where socializations with other players was not required. They come here not knowing what to expect. And even though this is not (LOL) a war game, war is a very important factor of it. I agree with Mari , that some form of tutorial to that aspect would greatly benefit those new players.

I also agree with all of the above. There are so many variables to this game, it is quite amazing. You took our advise on a tutorial for defense and building a second town, that has helped a lot of new players (and old). Now you can expand upon that to include the alliance factor, maybe you could throw in the Levy system. (I do not use it myself, because most folks find it way to confusing to understand. Plus they feel like they are being taken advantage of by other members of the alliance.)

Some grey borders are protectorates because they belong to alliance clones and are awaiting a spot in their owners' alliance. :-) I agree that being in an alliance is very helpful and players who are new or just inexperienced can learn a lot from other alliance members. Being in an alliance is not a silver bullet to protection but it helps to have safety in numbers. While there is an achievement for forming an alliance and some for leaving/kicking a member and for adding members, there is no real explanation of diplomatic rules and the benefits of becoming allies.

There will be a third - adventure and diplomacy advisor who will be obtainable in Karfaree. She will be a good fit for that. Plus functionality of advisors will be reworked along with upcoming interface upgrades.

Zoryana is added into the game now and she will be an advisor who will be teaching multiplayer stuff - interaction with other players and similar stuff. Here is the draft of quests which will be useful for her to teach players: - Sending private message to another player
- Sending resources to another player (one way, not a market trade)
- Receiving resources from another player (will require communication, like asking about it)
- Sending reinformcement to another player
- Receiving reinforcement from another player.
- Sending "Good Neighbor Package" - a speical package with items that is given to you by Zoryana that can only be given to someone who is touching borders with you.
- Making mutual friends with someone (will be a natural step if a new player arranged sending/receiving resources/reinforcements)
- Building an alliance building
- Joining an alliance with at least 5 members.
What do you think about this lineup of quests? Doing them should make player learning all the basic communication with other players and ending up in the alliance after doing it all should give a good start to further success in the game as the social part of the game is pretty important. Are there are any other important steps/actions that new players should be taught? Post your ideas.

How about a tutorial on changing diplomatic status? For instance the difference between truce and peace pact. :-)

That's out of the scope of this thread. I am talking about basic stuff that newbies much be taught in order to be successful in this game in terms of social communtication. Changing diplomatic relations is stuff that only alliance leaders would need. Most players are simple alliance members that don't do that type of thing.

Fair enough. :-) Though if someone wants to start their own alliance that information should be supplied at some point I think. :-)

You might want to add the pros/cons about joining an alliance. The game info says you can play as a single player, but we all know that is very misleading. Also might want to mention that if you leave your alliance, that you can not rejoin it for 7 days.

There won't be pors/cons of joining alliance, the end of this quest line is joining an alliance, so you will have to do it anyway if you want to complete the quest. We want to push players to try social stuff, which means inevitable joining the alliance. The play may choose to play alone in the end, but we want to make sure he knows about social stuff but decided to stay on his own. Read the beginning of the thread, some would do better eventually if they started to socialize earlier.

I would put between nos 5 and 6 a new point - how to move fellow alliance members troops to reinforce - ie - not your own troops. Also include some advice to share all troops so that expensive and useless fighters such as settlers and priests, and some ships get moved OUT of the target towns too.

I think this advisor should be introduced much earlier than Karfaree. Many new players have already started asking questions before they try Karfaree. Maybe the chieftain's son or bored daughter would be a better choice, as we tend go to Keeper Village first.

In Beta 1 we have added Zoryana's Diplomatic advisor quest to address this issue. Let me know how you liked it and whether anything is wrong and/or missing.

Having done the good neighbour quest with a number of people; I think it is a very good start especially for those who are new to the game and maybe wary of speaking to an actual person beyond their computer. I would like to see her developed more so that when the individual joins an alliance they have to share troops, and move other members troops etc. But - PLEASE can Zweinstein, Bulat and Zoryana just stay in the bottom right corner of the screen, where you can ask them for help when needed - and NOT follow the hero around all the time!

I like the quest line and think this can help new players but I agree that it should mention that if you leave / get kicked from alliance, you can't rejoin for 7 days. Also one minor thing. When talking to Zoryana in Karfaree, her character was completely different than when she started with the quests in dwelling. She goes from giggling and flirting to a Bulat like mood. Just my opinion

I'm new to the game, just started a few weeks ago. I have done the Zoryana quest and am now in what appears to be a fabulous alliance. I was looking for a thread that was more about how to be a good alliance member or the DOs and DON'Ts of being in an alliance. I don't want to flood the chat with my random questions about the game. I do want to do what is needed, but without asking a hundred questions, I feel like I might be overlooking some major thing and committing a faux pas. I've looked in the threads, and I'm wondering if I have missed a thread like this or if there isn't one. If there isn't can we make one?

Every alliance is different with their own sets of dos and don'ts so I would encourage you to task your alliance members as many questions as you can or at least see if there can be a mentor appointed to you on the team who will work with you if you are hesitant to ask a ton of questions on a/c. :-)

We might add some additional advices to Zoryana's dialog. There are things that are common for any alliance. If players have any ideas about useful advices - please, share it here.
